From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Caring, diligent and transparent services.
We used the Clapham branch; nothing was too much trouble. Every question was answered, every wish accommodated. Angelika and David were fantastic. Thank you
From start to finish this is a very good company they treated me with respect, they were very helpful and friendly I felt completely cushioned. Thank you all. P. Deutsch
We recently had my mother’s Funeral and we decided to go with Ernest Larna – the Clapham branch. Of course, the day was a difficult one but the guys made it go as smoothly as possible.
David and Paul were there on the day and we can’t thank them enough for how attentive and supportive they were. They gave my family and me advise on how to carry the coffin and were really professional throughout the day.
I would also like to say that Nick who is the manager of this branch was incredibly helpful and always there when needed regarding the beforehand arrangements and after. We are really grateful to him and his team for making the day go as smoothly as it did.
I used Ernest Larner a couple of weeks ago. They were absolutely amazing helpful and answered my questions. They treated us with respect and they helped us through a difficult time. Thank you to all the staff who we dealt with and many thanks for arranging Martin Richards as our celebrant
